The Very Angry Frog has spent years watching Britain stand in queues, filling in forms, stamping documents and generally faffing about while perfectly good people try to move from one place to another. And let me tell you, Froggy does not like faffing.
Now, before the usual crowd jumps out of the reeds shouting, “Frog, you’ve gone political!”, let me be clear. Froggy doesn’t care much for party colours, fancy slogans or politicians standing in front of factories wearing hard hats they’ve never used. Froggy cares about people.
People meeting people.
People working where opportunities exist.
People falling in love with someone from another country and not feeling as though they’re applying for a licence to own a particularly dangerous goldfish.
That’s why Froggy would be absolutely delighted if the UK rejoined the European Union, particularly if it meant the return of Freedom of Movement.
The idea is beautifully simple. If a young Brit wants to work in Barcelona, they should pack a bag and go. If a talented engineer from Prague wants to help build something in Manchester, welcome aboard. If someone fancies studying in Paris, opening a business in Dublin or retiring somewhere sunny where it doesn’t rain sideways every Thursday, why not?
The world gets smaller when people stop moving.
It gets bigger when they do.
Freedom of Movement was never just about economics. It was about experience, opportunity, cultural understanding and the simple human right to explore life beyond the pond where you happened to hatch.
So yes, Froggy would celebrate. Quite loudly.
And for once, the Very Angry Frog might be just a little less angry. Though only a little. Somebody would still park badly, and that sort of nonsense cannot be tolerated. 🐸
